Old Dominion University Men’s Basketball
Old Dominion University’s (ODU) men’s basketball team is off to a challenging start in the 2024–25 season under new head coach Mike Jones. Despite some promising performances, the Monarchs have struggled to secure victories in their opening games.
In their season opener on November 4 against Buffalo, ODU showed resilience by overcoming a 12-point deficit, only to lose narrowly 83–82 after a late three-pointer by Buffalo’s Tyson Dunn. The game highlighted standout performances from Robert Davis Jr., who scored 25 points, and Stephaun Walker, who contributed a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds
Following the opener, ODU faced tough competition on the road, including a significant loss to Arizona (102–44) and another defeat at Radford (87–75). However, the team found some success against Maryland Eastern Shore and Randolph-Macon, securing back-to-back wins at home
The Monarchs also participated in the Cayman Islands Classic, where they faced stiff challenges. Losses to Boston College and High Point have tested the team’s adaptability and resilience. They are now preparing for upcoming games, including a rivalry matchup with William & Mary on December 2 at Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia

Duquesne Basketball: Rising Ambitions and Early Challenges
Duquesne University’s basketball program is in a phase of rejuvenation under new head coach Dru Joyce III, appointed in March 2024. The team has shown significant potential, with a mix of experienced transfers and returning talent aiming to elevate their performance in the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10). Despite challenges in the early season, including a loss to Lipscomb in their home opener, the Dukes are focused on building chemistry and competing at a high level.
In their season opener, Duquesne fell short against Lipscomb, despite a spirited comeback effort in the first half. Lipscomb’s sharp shooting gave them an early lead, but the Dukes managed to close the gap to 41-34 by halftime. Senior forward Jahsean Corbett and redshirt junior Maximus Edwards led the scoring efforts. However, inconsistent defense and missed opportunities at critical moments ultimately hindered their performance
